Lgbt Rights Movement For Lgbt Adults - 1809 Words

This summer, the Supreme Court states that gay and lesbian Americans have the right to get married. This is certainly an important step in the new Civil Rights movement for LGBT equality, and has led to a more perfect United States. However, LGBT people are still not completely free from discrimination and abuse, there is much more society can, and should do, in order to advance LGBT equality. In order to advance the cause of LGBT equality, society must create and enforce federal LGBT worker protections in order to protect LGBT adults and must ban gay conversion therapy in order to protect LGBT children. Federal LGBT worker protections would protect civil liberties, incentivize society to become more tolerant, and promote economic†¦show more content†¦The message that America would send by passing ENDA would be that a person’s sexual orientation, much like their race and sex, is an aspect of their personhood that should not impair their ability to receive employment. Some state than ENDA would hurt economic growth, and small business owners will be hurt by additional government rules. However, ENDA would actually promote economic growth. As Crosby Burns states in his article on the LGBT policy journal at the Harvard Kennedy school, ENDA would increase business efficiency, â€Å"allowing them [LGBT employees] to focus on completing their core workplace responsibilities rather than censoring themselves out of fear of unfairness and discrimination.† Making businesses liable for discriminatory practices within their hiring process will help make LGBT employees more effective, and will help the business as a whole. ENDA would help corporations avoid lawsuits, as it would provide â€Å"clarity and uniformity into the legal system and ultimately help firms avoid costly discrimination-related lawsuits† (Burns). The best refutation of ENDA is the religious right s argument. The idea of a Christian couple being forced to hire LGBT adults, and in the process, violating their conscience, some say, is a clear violation of religious liberty. However, that is not the case, since ENDA clearly has a religious exception.Show MoreRelatedLgbt Training Programs For Healthcare1544 Words   |  7 PagesThe older lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, are a vulnerable population with specific healthcare needs. Narrative Poetry Essay Where the ebony, we call NIGHT, Old black rocks sit under the twilight. Diamond shape eyes unclear and lonely, Sinister through hostile spirits only, I stumble across these stones without a bone. A solitary confinement alone, From a barren zone the light transcend. Only in time, our minds will mend. Endless valleys and limitless stones. These bones- these bones they sit alone. The abyss, of rotten cavities with no fill, A system no power can unwell the drill The blood that passed over without a spill. Peaks collapse Into a spellbinding chill. They are trapped! They are trapped! Another diamond In the rough. Is what they left. Obsessed by the dead without a death. Death that Impatiently awaited their last breath. Gushing, unto the gems of dead chemistry, Diamonds holding Its own Intensity, These lonely graves, on top of sycamore hill. Coal mulling hearts that will never heal. If only shiny eyes could see? These lonely bones Inside of me! Moving In every direction possible Flowing In every deletion noticeable. Sockets without eyes. Stones hiding under the cobalt skies. The mad sparkles, the madness dies. Throughout this mass, we held in the blasphemous. Intervening lots of gems so miraculous. Into a stone of self-religion, A black night filled of legions. Acknowledging the souls capacity of free. Near the frail bones that sit alone, Alone they sit in a morbid home. Through a path unclear and all alone, Troubled by the visions of my own stone. Where the night takes place in the dark. The ebony rides under the diamond bark. Along with the coalminers who never got to see the; Diamonds of another day!

The Joker free essay sample

The Joker, because he is highly intelligent, he has no levels, there is no limit to what he is capable of doing. I think the Joker won in the end because he seriously did some serious damage. He got what he wanted he turned Gotham’s hero into a villain, and he ruined Wayne’s life by taking the people he cared about the most. In the first movie the Dark night the Joker made such of a big of an impact that it went on in The Batman Rises. But then again, like the Joker said This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object Which means it is in deadlock. No one is winning, no one is losing. The Joker isn’t the toughest or biggest villain but yet he is the most dangerous. I think it’s the fact that he is so intelligent that makes him so dangerous, because a fist fight between Batman and The Joker there is no doubt who would win. We will write a custom essay sample on The Joker or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The Joker has his every move well planned, he always has a plan. So he always has a clean getaway. Maybe that’s why he is my favorite, everything he does is so suspenseful. You literally don’t know what to expect. Now Bane is a different villain who comes out in the Dark Night Rises he is not my favorite. Yeah I get it he is super strong. But he really isn’t that smart though. Bane leaves things by taking chances, which is really not a smart idea. If it wasn’t for his super muscles or Talia by his side, Bane really isn’t much of a dangerous guy. The only reason why Bane got so far was because Wayne was going through so much at that time. Batman goes through some crucial moments throughout The Batman Rises, Bruce has fallen from the invested physical ability of being Batman. He suffers from cartilage deficiency, but not only that, Wayne is also going through some mental and emotional state having to go through the loss of his love and the betrayal of his butler. If anything, it shows Bruce’s initial unwillingness to heal, mentally or physically. But at the end he overcomes is when he realizes his city has fallen, and the innocent people of Gotham needs him. I think the most crucial moment Wayne goes through is when he is prison. And he cannot escape. When he is thrown into the pit Wayne is defeated and broken mentally, physically, and emotionally, the successful limb out of the pit is the first time Batman truly emerges in the film, but it took a while for him to get back up on his feet. I think that Wayne was a little bit to confident when he went up against Bane for the first time. Did he really think he was going to take him down that easily I mean the guy was doing nothing for eight years, and he expect to be the same. I think Wayne should hav e waited till he was fully recovered or he should have not underestimated his opponent. In the Dark Night Rises I think The Batman actually won, and there is no doubt. He recovered his image with the city of Gotham and not only that but in the end he was able to live a normal life with Catwomen, just like he used to. Talia nor Bane won because there evil plan was a total fail from the beginning. The ending in the Dark night rises to me was pretty cheesy. I mean the movie was okay from a scale one through five I give it a 3. 5. First of all because we hardly see batman throughout the movie, and when we do we see him going through some difficult times. I would rather have seen him going through some hard hits against Bane. Second, is the fact that Talia was the master mind, because I was a little disappointed that at the end Bane was literally just the sidekick to Talia? I mean the whole time throughout the movie we see him taking control, but the whole time he was just part of Talia’s work. The villain that surprised me the most would probably be Talia, but for some reason I don’t understand her evil plan. Why does she hate Bruce Wayne? And I know she develops some negative feelings against her father for not accepting Bane. I get that part. I just understand why she’s out to ruin Bruce for murdering her father. I mean her father didn’t accept Bane. I would’ve thought this would bother her. But she did do a good job. You have to give her some props. She knew what she was doing, and she knew she had Bruce in the palms of her hands. Manipulating Bruce into thinking she had feelings for him was very clever. And let’s not forget she knew the Wayne’s enterprise inside out. Which gave her an advantage. All in all the movies were great, but my favorite was probably The Dark Night, mainly because of the joker. Like I said earlier the Joker was probably the most dangerous villain. He literally had Gotham under rage of terror. He would announce who he was going to kill and he always had a perfect getaway. Which I think made him very dangerous to the folks of Gotham. As for Bane, bankrupting Bruce and breaking Batman’s back were the worst of his crimes. And for Talia her crime was to continue her father’s work by destroying the largest city, but it failed. At the end I still think the Joker was the best villain ever.

A visit to a museum or art gallery exhibit Essay

A visit to a museum or art gallery exhibit - Essay Example Within these periods there was further designation based on the regions of their creation. Ultimately, the vases acted as a powerful example of artistry and ancient Greek history. Another thing I witnessed at the gallery exhibition was Marcia Gygli King’s "Cantilever, 1980". This exhibit was a mixed-media work. The work itself is part painting and part sculpture. In terms of art history this work is notable as it is demonstrative of a period of expression where artists began to experiment with the deconstruction of categories and produce hybrid works. Another prominent work I witnessed was Richard Dieben Korn’s "Ocean Park". This painting was a large landscape type work, except it was composed of figurative and abstract forms. While one thinks of abstract expressionism in terms of the messy Jackson Pollack type work, â€Å"Ocean Park† is a much more orderly work. In these respects one notes that the work is almost a hybrid of such artists that make great use of b locks of color, along with the abstract expressionist creation of emotion through figurative means of expression. The work is ultimately highly notable within art history as a unique piece of mid-20th century work.

Christian Views on Racial Harmony and Religious Free

Christian Views on Racial Harmony and Religious Freedom Essay St. Paul taught Christians that other races and religions were equal in the eyes of God. â€Å"It is through faith that all of you are God’s sons in union with Christ Jesus. You were baptized into union with Christ, and now you are clothed, so to speak, with the life of Christ himself. So there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, between slaves and free men, between men and women; you are all one in union with Christ Jesus. It is because believers share a love of Jesus that they are equal, St Paul says. The Bible opens up with a description of God creating humans in his own image, therefore, Christians believe that everybody should be respected as God’s creation. This means that prejudice and racism are wrong. There are many more teachings in the Old and New testaments which reinforce this, like the Good Samaritan. Most modern Christians believe that people should be free to follow whatever they like, or none at all. There are, however, three different Christian approaches to religious freedom. Exclusivism: Some people are excluded from heaven. Jesus said â€Å"I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one goes to the father except by me. † Some Christians believe this means that only those who follow Christian beliefs can go to heaven. Inclusivism: Some Christians believe that while all religions can help to reach god, only Christianity has the complete answer. This is because Jesus taught that people should believe in him to get to heaven, and only Christians believe in Jesus as the Son of God. This is often the view held by Roman Catholic Christians. While other faiths should be respected, the right path should be explained to them. Pluralism There are many religions. Some Christians believe that all religions will lead to God, none is superior and none is wrong. People are free to followthe way that suits them best. These Christians do not regard the Bible as ‘the word of God’, but rather as holy writings like many other sacred books. These Christains do not think they should try to persuade people to change their religion.

Human Behavior & society Essay

One good argument in favor of natural determination of human behavior is through an experiment done with lab rats. In this case, a castrated male rat (with no testosterone) is placed with a female lab rat that has been injected with testosterone. In this case, the female acts dominant while the male is submissive. This to an extent proves that natural factors e. g. hormones play an important role in human behavior. Besides this, the moodiness experienced by humans undergoing puberty, as well as pre-menstrual syndrome, in which human behavior fluctuates, shows that natural factors do play a role in determining human behavior. On the other hand, the lab rat experiment is questionable, mainly because the biology of rats is significantly different from humans, and secondly, because humans themselves consume testosterone without such drastic swings in behavior. This suggests that what is currently seen as hormone-triggered changes in human behavior could have social undercurrents. Human behavior itself is a highly complex topic. In some instances, as seen with hormones and also genetically inherited diseases, it is completely due to natural circumstances and events. In other instances, certain types of human behavior is caused by social conditioning and socialization e. g. compliance with the law and the observance of norms and values. In some unusual cases, it is determined by nature and society, working hand-in-hand, or sometimes one after the other to cause a change in such behavior. To judge this issue in terms of absolutes would be unjustified. Exactly in what way human behavior is developed depends on both society and on nature- and in many cases either society or nature is more dominant. However, it is clear that human behavior overall is shaped by a blend of both natural and social factors and issues, from genetic inheritance to socio-economic class.

College exam Essay

There has always been an arousing debate on whether all students are required to take college entrance exams in order to be accepted into a desired university. The standardized tests are currently used all over the United States in order to enroll or decline certain students based on a minimum score according to the college. The most common tests taken by high school students is the ACT and the SAT, both covering basic curriculum involving all major subjects studied throughout grade school, in order to test overall knowledge. Because of the benefits that oppose strictly relying on grade point averages as opposed to having the college entrance exams used in order to accept students, they are a good idea and should continue being used because they are much more routine and fair. Although the tests have proven successful, some might say that the tests don’t accurately score students ability to be successful in college universities. The people that refer to the exams as an insufficient way of accepting and declining hopeful students into college have many reasons to believe so. The first issue with these tests is that some people would argue that they don’t cover certain material that students may possibly excel in, or further a career in. Fields such as the arts, music, sciences, and other specialty subjects are all not included on these entrance exams. Not including these areas takes away from students being recognized for their true talents that could be of further use to the university, but the college registers could never get the chance to see those talents. Another reason why one would argue that the tests are a negative thing would be that not all the tests are equal in difficulty, being a reason why some students could score significantly better than another. Since the exams are not the same in content, it isn’t fair for one person to be accepted into a college, and another not be accepted. The final reason why people prefer for them to not be mandatory is because of the discrimination for people who score badly on the test, but have very good grades throughout high school. Some people aren’t good test takers, and their good GPA reflects their skills more accurately. These views against students being required to take college entrance exams all are very valid points, but the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to this. There are many reasons why colleges currently require students to take college entrance exams. The positives definitely contribute to the success in this method of accepting students into college based on their scores. One reason why the tests are a good idea is because of how fair standard the process is when the determining who’s admitted into college. There isn’t an issue between accepting certain students because their scores on the ACT or SAT are self explanatory. Another reason the test scores are necessary is because grades cannot be a main decider. This is because a lot of students in high school are not honorable when it comes to work ethic and doing their own hard work, in other words cheating is an issue. If a college is looking to admit a student based on GPA this could be a mistake, the good grades won’t reflect work ethic and test taking skills that are essential to success in college. The final reason that ties to why the college exams are a good method is because these tests cover all important subjects that will be studied in college. The core subjects are really important to be tested over because it shows pure intelligence in a students learning throughout grade school. When choosing students to admit, they will obviously choose the person that scored the highest on an exam that covers basic studies. There are debating topics on whether college entrance exams are a good idea or not. When deciding students to admit into further schooling, there has to be a standard and fair way to determine. Exams like the ACT and SAT all cover core classes and knowledge that was studied all through grade school. This way, the deciding is based on the required minimum scores of students so the elimination process has moral reasoning and fairness. Although there are negative views on the limited material being tested, the fact that not all the tests are equal in difficulty and that people who do poorly on the test are automatically discriminated and declined. These may be real issues, but the reasons why it’s a good idea definitely shine through. The fairness and standardization makes it easy to analyze the students, grades are not a good reference for intelligence and potential success in college, and finally the tests show a prediction of how knowledgeable students are with core subjects and test taking skills that are used every day in college. Standardized college entrance exams should continue being used to decide whether or not one should be admitted into a certain college.

Michelangelo Defend my dead painting now, Giovanni, and my honor not being in a good place nor I a painter.

Michelangelo Defend my dead painting now, Giovanni, and my honor not being in a good place nor I a painter. All his life Michelangelo professed to think of himself as a sculptor rather than a painter. In fact he was not a painter in the sense of such great artist as the Dutch and Flemish painters of the seventeenth century. Michelangelo used to say that sculpture was the lantern of panting, and the difference was like the sun and moon. Michelangelo believed sculpture required more judgment and precision, it was harder work. Even in his old age he disliked the manual arts and a distaste for painting. He signed all of his work Michelangelo the sculptor.Yet, of all Michelangelo's more ambitious projects only those in painting were completed by his own hand, while his many sculptural designs ether survive in bad condition or were never even started. And, despite his disregard for the fundamental of painting, he was one of the greatest painters who ever lived. In content and form, in piercing intensity of feeling and beauty of mass and line.A Ignudo, Sistine ChapelMichelangelo was a character o f conflict. He broke away from his family to seclude himself and focus on his art. He lived for years in extreme privation in order to devote almost the entire income from stone-carving to the re-establishment of the family fortune and honor. He loved his father and brothers and poured out earnings for there well being, but berated them unjustly. He was a republican and challenged public officials. But when the chips were down he fled or hid, and in political danger recommended the strictest concealment of political opinion. He professed undying love for Tommaso Cavalieri, yet entertained other emotional interests. He was always a strict Christian, devoted to God and the Church and scornful of false priests. There is, undeniably a certain grandiosity about Michelangelo, illustrative yet tragic. Michelangelo signed many contracts-...

Amphoteric Oxide Definition in Chemistry

Amphoteric Oxide Definition in Chemistry An amphoteric oxide is an oxide that can act as either an acid or base in a reaction  to produce a salt and water. Amphoterism depends on the oxidation states available to a chemical species. Because metals have multiple oxidation states, they form amphoteric oxides and hydroxides. Amphoteric Oxide Examples Metals that display amphoterism include copper, zinc, lead, tin, beryllium, and aluminum. Al2O3 is an amphoteric oxide. When reacted with HCl, it acts as a base to form the salt AlCl3. When reacted with NaOH, it acts as an acid to form NaAlO2.Typically, oxides of medium electronegativity are amphoteric. Amphiprotic Molecules Amphiprotic molecules are a type of amphoteric species that donate or accept H or a proton. Examples of amphiprotic species include water (which is self-ionizable) as well as proteins and amino acids (which have carboxylic acid and amine groups). For example, the hydrogen carbonate ion can act as an acid: HCO3−   OH−  Ã¢â€ â€™ CO32−   H2O or as a base: HCO3−   H3O  Ã¢â€ â€™ H2CO3   H2O Keep in mind, while all amphiprotic species are amphoteric, not all amphoteric species are amphiprotic. An example is zinc oxide, ZnO, which does not contain a hydrogen atom and cannot donate a proton. The Zn atom can act as a Lewis acid to accept an electron pair from OH−. Related Terms The word amphoteric derives from the Greek word amphoteroi, which means both. The terms amphichromatic and amphichromic are related, which apply to an acid-base indicator that yields one color when reacted with an acid and a different color when reacted with a base. Uses of Amphoteric Species Amphoteric molecules that have both acidic and basic groups are called ampholytes. They are primarily found as zwitterions over a certain pH range. Ampholytes may be used in isoelectric focusing to maintain a stable pH gradient.

Differences Between International Business Management and United Essay

Differences Between International Business Management and United States Business Management - Essay Example Different business management practices differ depending on the purposes and the scope of the business or the area it covers (Adekola & Sergi, 2008). There is the difference between international business management and United States business management. The international business management is a business that incorporates many factors as compared to the business management of America. The international business has factors like different government policies, cultures of different people and other foreign elements that are put into consideration, while the United States business management has only the domestic policy, one culture, and other internal factors that are considered when designing it. The American Business Management uses an individualistic approach where managers are the one who are responsible for the decisions made in their areas of the jurisdiction (Dewan, 2011). In this case, the decision always lies with the management though the other staff can discuss but the final say lies in the word of the boss. For the case of the international business, the board of management deliberates the matters affecting the busines s. The management approach here is not like the one of United States business management, but it entails deliberations that are made by the board and are implemented by the representative managers of various countries in the world. The accountability of the international business lies in the board of management where in consultation with the various managers of different countries they account for everything that is done in the business. The managers of American companies have a belief that the overwhelming success in a business brings real rewards. Thus, they tend to disregard the opinions of the other subordinates members (Punnett, 2014). This approach brings a lot of problems when the things go wrong and in meetings there are some incidences of
